Chelsea is making a full-court press to bring Xabi Alonso to Stamford Bridge, according to a fresh update from David Ornstein. The 44-year-old former Real Madrid and Liverpool midfielder is currently without a club after being dismissed by Real Madrid in January, just eight months into a three-year contract.
Ornstein of The Athletic reports that Chelsea is working to secure Alonso as a replacement for Liam Rosenior. The Spanish tactician is reportedly becoming more open to the possibility, although no deal is advanced yet. In recent weeks, there had also been speculation linking Alonso with Liverpool, another club where he played, should the Reds decide to part ways with Arne Slot.
Meanwhile, Chelsea also has Bournemouth’s Andoni Iraola on its shortlist, another serious candidate for the position. However, Crystal Palace’s persistent interest seems to have swayed the former Rayo Vallecano boss.
