In a hard-fought Game 4 of the NBA Western Conference Semifinals, the Oklahoma City Thunder defeated the Los Angeles Lakers 115-110 on the road. With this victory, the Thunder completed a 4-0 sweep of the Lakers, advancing to the Western Conference Finals. Oklahoma City will now face the winner of the series between the San Antonio Spurs and the Minnesota Timberwolves for a spot in the NBA Finals. Meanwhile, the Lakers were eliminated after suffering four straight losses in the series. Notably, the Thunder remain undefeated in the playoffs, and the five-point margin of victory was their smallest in the postseason so far.

Thunder starting guard Ajay Mitchell delivered another phenomenal performance in this contest. Mitchell played 32 minutes and 57 seconds, shooting 12-of-19 from the field, 1-of-4 from three-point range, and 3-of-3 from the free-throw line. He finished with 28 points, 3 rebounds, 4 assists, and 4 steals, committing just 1 turnover and 2 fouls while posting a plus-minus of +17. Mitchell was unstoppable on offense, showcasing elite driving and finishing ability along with decent shooting range. The Lakers simply had no answer for his penetration. He also demonstrated solid playmaking skills and contributed on the defensive end. In the second half alone, Mitchell scored 20 points, helping the Thunder stabilize the game when the momentum shifted. Without his heroics, Oklahoma City might not have secured the win.

During the regular season, Mitchell appeared in all 82 games, averaging 25.8 minutes per contest with 13.6 points, 3.3 rebounds, 3.6 assists, 1.2 steals, and 0.3 blocks, while shooting 48.5% from the field, 34.7% from three, and 87% from the free-throw line. In the playoffs so far, he has averaged 29.8 minutes, 18.8 points, 4 rebounds, 4.9 assists, and 1.4 steals across seven games, with shooting splits of 47.1%/36.1%/89.3%.
Mitchell’s performance in the first-round series was not as dominant, as he initially struggled to adjust to the sudden increase in ball-handling responsibilities. However, in this series against the Lakers, he has clearly adapted to the heavier workload. His ability to create scoring opportunities off the dribble has been fully unleashed, and his confidence continues to grow. Mitchell’s recent play has reached an All-Star level, which is excellent news for the Thunder. If he can maintain this form, Oklahoma City’s lineup will be incredibly difficult to stop.
