Galatasaray has the opportunity this weekend to clinch the Süper Lig title for the fourth consecutive season. If the Turkish giants manage to beat seventh-placed Samsunspor, they will claim their 26th national championship and solidify their status as the most dominant Turkish team of this century. In 27 years, this would mark their 13th title, placing ‘Gala’ among the most successful clubs of the era.
To determine Galatasaray’s standing relative to other European sides, we’ve counted all domestic league titles won since the 1999/2000 season across the ten highest-ranked European competitions: the Premier League, LaLiga, Serie A, Bundesliga, Ligue 1, Liga Portugal, Eredivisie, Belgian Jupiler Pro League, Turkish Süper Lig, and the Czech Chance Liga. Teams tied on title counts are ranked by the recency of their last championship.
Leading the pack, with a commanding seven-title advantage and undeniable domestic dominance, is Bundesliga powerhouse Bayern Munich. They have impressively won 20 of the 27 available titles this century. Should Galatasaray secure this season’s championship, they would share second place with 13 domestic league titles since 2000, tying with PSV, who have also won the Eredivisie 13 times including this campaign.
FC Barcelona and FC Porto currently have 12 titles apiece, but both could reach 13 if results in LaLiga and Liga Portugal swing in their favor this weekend. Paris Saint-Germain and Juventus each have 11 titles, with PSG likely adding another in Ligue 1 this season. Belgian giants Anderlecht have won 10 titles, though they haven’t added one since the 2016/17 season. Real Madrid and Ajax each have nine league titles this century.
Manchester City and Manchester United are tied on eight apiece, although City could edge ahead if they snatch the Premier League title from Arsenal this season. Inter Milan could also rise to eight titles this weekend.
