Michael Olise’s 100th-minute equalizer for Bayern Munich significantly complicated Heidenheim’s hopes of avoiding relegation. With only two matches remaining, Frank Schmidt’s side sit at the bottom of the table, three points away from the relegation playoff spot. The gap to safety—nine points behind Werder Bremen—now seems insurmountable.

Nevertheless, the emotional atmosphere at the Allianz Arena overshadowed the result. Bayern, in collaboration with the German Bone Marrow Donor Archive (DKMS), organized a campaign to fight blood cancer after Heidenheim striker Eren Dinkçi announced in mid-April that his partner, Cinja, had been diagnosed with leukemia.
“If we can save a life, there’s no hesitation. The Bayern family is so vast that each member can do something great,” said club president Herbert Hainer ahead of the match. “Even players and staff are already registered in the database. We hope for a strong turnout from fans on this important issue.”
Manuel Neuer emphasized, “Every person can save lives here. It’s impressive how much can be achieved with so little effort. Registration takes only a few minutes, but it can make a difference for patients. The entire team understands the importance of unity.”
Joshua Kimmich added, “Taking part should be an obligation for everyone. So: open your mouth, insert the swab, and become a donor!”
The initiative deeply moved Dinkçi himself, who scored Heidenheim’s temporary 0-2 lead against Bayern. “Absolutely wonderful! I was thrilled to learn about it—such an initiative from a world-class club. I hope we got many more registrations. And now even more clubs are joining, which is fantastic and gives hope to everyone who needs it.”
Bayern is not the first club to support this cause. Both Heidenheim and Freiburg, Dinkçi’s parent club, had previously organized campaigns to combat blood cancer.

Heidenheim fans also contributed significantly. “We reached an incredible 688 registrations with DKMS outside the stadium. This means so much to us, and we are truly grateful to everyone who signed up. You can save lives!” the player highlighted. Every goal and every signature matters.
